Zen Garden, Castleton, Vermont This area offers hiking trails for visitors of all abilities, from meandering paths through wildflower meadows to rocky climbs, with the Japanese garden serving as the centerpiece accessed bya very steep, hilly trail. The204-acre property features a network of trailsand includeswaterfalls, ponds, bridges, meadows, sheer rock cliffs, and views of the rolling hills. The garden itself is complete with small stone shrines surrounded by water features, and the grounds are home to more than 2,500 rhododendrons. Hikers can venture tothe top of Mount Zion, where views also encompass the nearby Hubbardton Battlefield. Note: the Japanese garden is maintained from Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October, and there is no water, phone or other facilities, but there is a single portalet.
