Wolf Hill Forest Preserve is a Smithfield Land Trust property that offers scenic overlooks and several miles of trails for hiking, biking, and exploring nature by foot or horseback. Eight trails traverse the preserve with options ranging from 2 to 6 miles in length. Most trails are gently rolling, with the exception of a southern portion of Mary Mowry Trail which is very steep and rocky. The preserve features a mature oak and maple forest with stands of pine and hemlock, and contains many huckleberry and lowbush blueberry bushes. At the southern end of the property is Mercer Outlook which offers views of the Providence skyline and beyond. In the center of the property is a memorial to three airmen who perished when their plane crashed on this site in August 1943. The property’s power line right-of-way has created a low bush habitat where deer, wild turkeys, songbirds, and hawks can often be seen.
