Winnekenni Castle Park is a 700-acre conservation area featuring multiple trail options with varying difficulty levels. The primary Castle Trail loop isa 3.0-mile loop trail that is generally considered moderately challenging and takes an average of 1 hour 5 minutes to complete. For those seeking an easier experience, the Winnekenni Shoreline Loop is an easy hike covering 4.5 miles around Kenoza Lake. The trails feature woodland walking and great views of Kenoza Lake, withdiverse wildlife including Canada Geese, Blue Heron, Woodpeckers, and turtles. The centerpiece isthe castle, built between 1873 and 1875 from 35,000 cubic feet of glacial boulders, named Winnekenni meaning “very beautiful” in Algonquin. The castle stands about 250 feet above Kenoza Lake with spectacular views of adjacent towns and the surrounding county. The park offers about 9.5 miles of trails plus amenities including tennis courts for various outdoor activities.
