Wheeler Woods Conservation Area This is an easy walk, with0.97 miles of trails on 41 acres. The route is a loop with a few spur paths, most leading to scenic spots by the water. Wheeler Woods sits along the eastern shore of Chadwick Pond, offeringopportunities for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, birdwatching, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and biking. The area is home to beaver, painted turtles, mallard ducks, and great egrets. Created in 1999 by combining city land with a 28-acre lot purchased from Benjamin Wheeler—an avid outdoorsman who stipulated the land remain open space for public passive recreation.
