Wheeler Mountain in Barton provides a lovely, moderate hikefeaturing scenic views and interesting geology. The trail is a 4.4-mile round trip with approximately 700-foot elevation gain, andtakes about 1.5-2 hours to reach the top. This is anout-and-back hike that climbs to cliffs offering spectacular views of Lake Willoughby, the cliffs of Mount Pisgah, and surrounding mountains. The trail climbs gradually through the woods following the ridgeline, then leads to open ledges with expansive views and open bedrock to reach Wheeler Mountain cliffs with views of Jay Peak and Mount Mansfield, continuing past the summit to Eagle Cliff with views of Lake Willoughby and Mount Pisgah. The trail includes interesting features such as rock shelters, ledges, and overlooks. The first viewpoint is about a half mile from the trailhead.
