This easy 0.8-mile out-and-back trail near West Gardiner leads to the scenic banks of Cobbossee Stream. A short 0.5-mile walk takes you down to the stream’s peaceful shores, where there’s a picnic table and water views. The 113-acre sanctuary features historic cabins and 4,000 feet of stream frontage, with coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands that provide important habitat for birds, mammals, and plants. The trail is excellent for birding, cross-country skiing, and hiking, with minimal crowds. Two of the historic cabins were professionally restored by Maine Cabin Masters and featured on their DIY Network show.
