St. Johnsbury Municipal Forest – Red Trail This 97 acre municipal forest features a scenic trail network with views looking back to town and alongside the Moose River. The Red Trail heads up the hill through both coniferous and hardwood forests as a narrow trail with steep sections. The Red and Yellow Trail combination is 1.7 miles long with an elevation gain of 295 feet, making it a moderate difficulty hike. The trail network also includesthe Blue Trail, which heads to the right from the Logging Road and follows the Moose River to a couple beautiful viewpoints. The St. Johnsbury Town Forest offers an opportunity to access a forested walk or a riverside stroll just outside of the downtown district.
