For those seeking a longer route, a more extensive loop combining the Hatch Lot and Dean Easement is a moderate hike covering 5.7 miles with an elevation gain of 705 feet. The trail includes access to a spectacular vista where you can, on a clear day, view the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. The acreage is a mix of upland hardwood forest, exposed ledges, and mountain laurel groves plus it has woodland wetlands, intermittent streams and vernal pools supporting a variety of woodland flora and fauna. The scenic viewpoint is accessed via an existing gravel road, making the cleared area potentially handicap accessible, and the remote location of the scenic viewpoint allows excellent star-gazing.
