Thanksgiving Forest Reservation is a 45-acre town forest located adjacent to the Farms 1 neighborhood in South Chelmsfordwithrelatively easy trails to traverse, making this a family-friendly destination. Two trails are available—the longer Bovey Trail marked by blue trail markers and the shorter Russell Trail marked by purple trail markers. The Bovey Trail takes you along picturesque water views beside Russell Mill Pond where you may glimpse geese, ducks, and the occasional beaver lodge. The forest is a mix of hard and soft woods with enormous outcroppings of ledge and massive boulders on the property. The trails connect to Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle, allowing for extended exploration. The area gets its name from the historic annual gathering of the men of the town at a mass of boulders each Thanksgiving Day for a fox hunt.
