Tanager Hill is the most diverse parcel of preserved open space in Simsbury, beginning just above the Farmington River flood plain and climbing through connecting trails to Talcott Mountain via a basalt talus field. The property features easy, wide, unblazed paths in an ecologically-diverse area rich in wildlife. Approximately 2 miles of trails are available at this location and it connects to the Owen-Mortimer property. Notable features include extensive wetlands with a farm pond and vernal pools, Lucy Brook cutting a deep ravine, and 15 acres of open meadow—making this a wonderful area for bird watching with numerous species using the varied habitats for nesting and migration. Parking is available in a gravel lot with space for approximately 7-8 vehicles, including one paved handicap spot.
