Stony Brook Trailhead The Stony Brook Trail climbs up to the south ledges of Mount Moriah and passes by Imp Shelter (lean-to camping). This moderate-to-challenging route offers picturesque waterfalls, chilly swimmy pools, and stunning views. A 3.6 mile hike from the trailhead reaches the Carter-Moriah Trail, from which hikers can continue to enjoy views from the south ledges of Mount Moriah. For more ambitious hikers, the extended Stony Brook and Moriah Brook Trail is a hard hike covering 16 miles with 4,087 feet of elevation gain, taking about 9–10 hours to complete. The trail follows a brook filled with several large swimming holes perfect for a mid or post-hike dip. The trailhead has a kiosk map and no facilities.
