Stetser Preserve, Jefferson, Maine This easy to moderate loop trail spans 2.10 miles through mixed deciduous and coniferous forests, offering a peaceful woodland experience. The trails meander through small seeps and streams with a variety of wildlife habitats, andstone walls and old skidder trails provide clues to past land use. A short spur trail leads to a view of the property’s beautiful pond, andthe newer red trail provides a longer hike through open oak and pine forests on the ridge, along low wet areas and past lichen and moss covered bedrock outcrops. Wildlife sightings on the property include deer, moose, beaver, raccoon, fox, snowshoe hares, pileated woodpeckers, nuthatches, and barred and great horned owls.
