Steep Falls Village Preserve Trailhead This preserve offers easy walks through beautiful meadows and forests, featuring about a mile of trails in the network, which includes several loop options and a spur trail to a scenic wetland view. The primary trails consist of three loops through meadow and woods, with the smallest around a quarter-mile and the largest a half-mile, plus a quarter-mile spur trail through evergreen woods to a scenic lookout at Tucker Brook and the surrounding wetlands. The trails are wide and flat, with a grade of no more than about 2%. This land was the site of a working lumberyard from the late 1800s through about 1980, and what you see today is the result of 40 years of regenerated meadow and forest. Within the forest are tree species not commonly seen at other local preserves, including red pine, black locust, and a stately “survivor” elm near the trailhead.
