Southwest Corridor Park This 4.1-mile linear park stretches from the Back Bay to Forest Hills, making it an excellenteasy route that generally takes about 24 minutes to complete a 1.4-mile out-and-back section. The park features6 miles of trails along with 11 playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and 2 spray pools. The park offers multi-modal, bicycle and walking pathways, gardens, playgrounds, and city skyline views. Along the way, you’ll pass diverse cityscapes, landscaped areas with trees and shrubs, and community gardens. As the trail crosses West Newton Street, you can see the Prudential Center and John Hancock buildings, landmarks on the Boston skyline. A key feature of this urban greenway is its rich history: the green space is a testament to residents who protested a planned 12-lane expressway, which Governor Francis Sargent canceled in 1969 in favor of this park. Public transportation is suggested for this park, with easy access via multiple MBTA Orange Line stations along its route.
