Shieling Forest offers an easy 1.5-mile loop trail thatcombines a network of named and unnamed trails to create different loops. The trails cross Dunbar Brook twice, passing by huge glacial boulders, a wildflower garden maintained by the Peterborough Garden Club, remnants of the Hadley brickyard and a granite quarry. A notable boulder is an erratic left by a retreating glacier over 30 feet tall, and the trails are well-marked and maintained with sights including a tree identification trail, wildflower gardens, and a range of wildlife habitats. The Forestry Learning Center serves as the focal point with a meeting room, library, and exhibit areas. Allowed activities include walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, geocaching, and snowshoeing.
