Salmon River State Forest, Colchester, Connecticut This forest features a 6.7-mile blue-blazed Salmon River Trail, which ismoderate with several climbs. The Salmon River Trail traverses a portion of Salmon River State Forest and loops through Day Pond State Park, with a park roughly halfway through the hike near the pond where there are picnic tables. The trail features a covered bridge and waterfalls as well as multiple scenic vistas through forested trails, including Comstock’s Bridge, the only remaining covered bridge in eastern Connecticut, which spans the Salmon River near Route 16. Fishing opportunities include a handicap accessible fly fishing area and a disabled veterans fishing area. Additional activities in the forest includethe Airline State Park rail trail, which features the 137-foot-high Lyman Viaduct.
