Rurak Point is about 10 acres on the south side of Crystal Street, along the northern shore of Crystal Lake. This easy, short walk offers modest scenery featuringdeer, beaver, mink, otter, wild turkey, osprey, owls, and a wide variety of waterfowl. The area features a trail network that links seamlessly with nearby conserved areas, including the Essex County Greenbelt’s Creek Brook Greenbelt to the east and the jointly managed Crystal Gorge Conservation Area just across Crystal Street. Conservation areas are open to the public from 1⁄2 hour before sunrise to 1⁄2 hour after sunset, with no charge to enter. This compact conservation area is ideal for casual lakeside walks and wildlife observation as part of the larger Crystal Lake conservation network.
