The Roscoe M. Dexter trailhead offers access to the Deep Pond Trail in the western section of the Arcadia Wildlife Management Area. This hike consists of three major trails—the Deep Pond Trail, the Brushy Brook Trail, and the Dye Hill Trail—and covers about five miles with some challenging terrain. The Deep Pond Trail itself is an out-and-back route of 4.7 miles that is generally considered moderately challenging. The trail features mountain laurel and occasional ledge outcrops, andpasses through old hemlocks and along the shore of Beach Pond. Along the trail you’ll encounter a historic cemetery dating to 1829 and 1837, andstone walls that were once part of an old farm where you can make out traces of the former road. The terrain is rough and hilly with rocky footing, and the intersecting trails are marked with a confusing array of white, blue and yellow blazes which makes it easy to get lost.
