Pumpkin Ground Trail Head – Roosevelt Forest, Stratford, CTThe Roosevelt Forest Loop near Stratford is a 2.9-mile easy trail that takes an average of 59 minutes to complete. The loop trail has 157 feet of elevation gain. The trail is mostly well-maintained and flat with minimal hills, making it great to hike on a hot summer day since it is mostly shaded. The scenery features mixed deciduous forest filled with maples, sassafras, and hickory, with some sections so open that the forest floor is flooded with light, resulting in an abundance of ferns and wildflowers. The ponds and wetland areas are home to many species of birds. *Note: This is the Pumpkin Ground Trail Head access point to Roosevelt Forest’s extensive trail system.
