Ponemah Bog Trail, Amherst, NHThis easy hiking routeisa 0.8-mile loop trail thatfeatures mostly narrow boardwalk with spur trails to four viewing platforms. The sanctuary features a three-acre pond surrounded by a floating sphagnum mat and encircled by upland oak-pine woods. Key natural highlights includecarnivorous plants including sundew, pitcher plant, and horned bladderworts, plusconifers including white pine, pitch pine, black spruce, and tamarack. The area is excellent forbirdwatching, with highlights including bog bridges and opportunities for wildlife observation. The sanctuary is open throughout the year during daylight hours only, andno pets are permitted, for their safety and that of the bog.
