This easy hike covers 2.9 miles with an elevation gain of 321 feet, making it accessible for most fitness levels. The trail is an out-and-back routethattakes about 1–1.5 hours to complete. This relatively easy section of the Nipmuck Trail follows an old woods road before veering off past old overgrown foundations, where you’ll cross a seasonal stream and head up to a hilly ridge. The main attractions are well worth the effort: a short walk brings you to Boston Hollow Brook and the chain of tiny cascades known as Pixie Falls, andclimbing the hill after the brook leads to the fabled ‘Ladies Room Rock,’ with a smaller painted rock acting as a sign pointing to the large erratic boulder. Along the route, the trail joins a section of the Old Connecticut Path, a Native American trade route used and expanded by early Connecticut colonists. This area is known as Iron Mine Valley for the bog iron pulled from here during the Revolutionary War era.
