Pine Cobble Trail is a hard, out-and-back hike covering 4.2 miles with 1,414 feet of elevation gain, though alternative sources report shorter distances and moderate difficulty. The trail ascends moderately through an oak forestandreaches a quartzite cobble with expansive views of Williamstown, North Adams, and the Taconic and Hoosac Ranges. The summit features quartzite outcroppings and a rare pitch-pine habitat, withmountain laurels that bloom in early June. The trail ends at the Appalachian Trail, and you can make a loop with the Class of ’98 Trail.
