Packard Trail, Buckfield, Maine This 2.0-mile loop trail is generally considered moderately challenging and takes approximately 48 minutes to complete. The five-foot-wide trail meanders through a hardwood forest among talus slopes, whalebacks, and waterfalls, providing views of South Pond along with scenic features including several marshes, North Hill, glacial erratics, and small waterfalls along two prominent streams. The trail network offers five short side trails to various scenic points including a historic family cemetery, and a 0.5-mile outer loop trail at the southern end provides access to a waterfall on the South Pond outlet and birdwatching in the marsh. The trail is open year-round and beautiful to visit anytime, withopportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. The parking area and trailhead are located on the east side of Sodom Road, approximately 2.1 miles south of ME-117.
