Old Railroad Trail – Peterborough, NHThis moderate-difficulty rail trail is a hard-packed dirt path that winds through forests surrounding the Contoocook River for 2.7 miles from the Peterborough Recycling Center to Forest Road in Hancock. It offers flat terrain for jogging and cross-country skiing, as well as a scenic riverside ramble. The trail passes through thick forest and mostly follows the western banks of the Contoocook. The trail is usable year-round, with cross-country skiers taking full advantage in the wintertime. The Old Railroad Trail seamlessly connects to the Common Pathway trail system, allowing for extended hiking or biking options in the picturesque Monadnock Region.
