Mt. Blue State Park is Maine’s largest state park, encompassing approximately 8,000 acres in two sections separated by Webb Lake. The park’s flagship hike is the Mount Blue Trail, a 3.2-mile roundtrip moderate hike that takes 3-4 hours, featuring a strenuous, straight-up ascent to scenic vistas at the peak. The out-and-back trail covers 2.8 miles with an elevation gain of 1,781 feet. About a mile from the trailhead a former fire warden’s cabin provides rest and shelter, and the remains of an old fire tower are at the summit. The trail offers excellent birding and abundant wildflowers. For easier exploration, the Center Hill Nature Trail is an easy half-mile loop offering fantastic views and a unique, worthwhile, family-friendly experience. Beyond hiking, the park features a 136-site campground a short walk from a sandy beach, and visitors can swim, launch and rent boats, and walk on trails near Webb Lake.
