Mount Washington State Forest This 4,169-acre forest offers 30 miles of trails over rugged terrain and wilderness camping, with options ranging from easy to strenuous. Located in the extreme southwest corner of Massachusetts, the area is noted for spectacular scenery and breathtaking views. Popular routes includethe South Taconic Trail to the 2,250 ft. summit of Alander Mountain for amazing views, as well asthe Appalachian Trail as it winds its way along the ridgeline and through Sage’s Ravine. The challenging Bear Mountain, Round Mountain, and Mount Frissell loop traverses rugged terrain and rocky ridges, with wildlife and seasonal wildflowers providing scenic variety. Adjacent to the forest is Bash Bish Falls, one of the state’s most dramatic waterfalls, with water cascading some 60 feet.
