Mount Waldo via the Quarry Trail is a moderate hike covering 4 miles with 1,003 feet of elevation gain. This out-and-back trailfeaturesthe splendid quarry, which is about a half mile from the parking area—an aband oned quarry site of 107 acres on Mount Waldo. You’ll walk through an airy oak forest before coming out on the ledges where views start opening up, with a path that brings you around the quarry and up to the mountain. On a clear day at the summit, you can see far out in the ocean, far west into central Maine, even Mt. Katahdin to the north on an exceptionally clear day. Note: The quarry is dangerous and swimming is not allowed, due to many underwater obstructions.
