Mount Shaw Trailhead This is a moderate loop trail in New Hampshire. A 7.3-mile out-and-back trail option takes an average of 4 hours 36 minutes to complete and is generally considered a challenging route. The trail can be used to reach Big Ball, Black Snout and Mount Shaw from either direction, with the first two summits providing superb views across Lake Winnipesaukee while Mount Shaw has spectacular views north to the White Mountains. Although Mount Shaw is entirely forested all the way to the summit, a clearing on the carriage road that leads to the summit provides a magnificent view of the White Mountains and places it on the 52-With-a-View list. Mount Shaw is part of the remains of an ancient volcanic ring dike.
