Mount Haystack Trail is a 4.1-mile out-and-back trail near Wilmington, Vermont that is moderately challenging, taking an average of 2 hours 15 minutes to complete. The trail begins from a trailhead in a neighborhood and quickly enters Green Mountain National Forest, passing through wooded areas that begin in hardwood forest before transitioning into a stand of pines near the top, where there are excellent views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. From the summit, hikers enjoy a 180-degree view overlooking the Deerfield Valley with Mount Monadnock visible on the horizon, Haystack Pond below, Mount Snow to the left, and an additional south-facing overlook showing Harriman Reservoir and Mount Greylock in the distance. The trail is easily accessible for high-elevation montane spruce-fir forests because the trail starts at a relatively high 2,400 feet above sea level.
