Mount Everett State Reservation offers panoramic views of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York from the summit of 2,624-foot Mount Everett, located in the southwest corner of Massachusetts. The reservation featureshiking trails for all levels of experience, ranging from easy to difficult. The Appalachian Trail traverses the entire length of the reservation from south to north, crossing the summit of Mount Everett, with popular options including the Guilder Pond Loop, a 1-mile loop trail that circles the pond at 2,048 feet elevation, the second highest pond in Massachusetts, andthe Race Brook Falls trail, a strenuous 4.0 to 4.8 miles round trip featuring a three-tiered waterfall. Mount Everett’s summit supports a dwarf forest of pitch pine and bear oak, andthe area offers a rare old-growth forest found in only 50 acres of New England and the opportunity to picnic at Massachusetts’ highest natural body of water, Guilder Pond.
