Mass Audubon’s Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary Wachusett Meadow offers 12 miles of trails, withhiking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. The sanctuary featuresmultiple trail options traversing Brown Hill Summit, Glacial Boulder, ancient trees, and beaver ponds, plusbenches along many trails and several scenic overlooks offering expansive views. The sanctuary’s trails connect to Wachusett Mountain and the Midstate Trail systems, offering options for short or extended hikes. Wachusett Meadow is a former farmstead that offers spectacular scenery and supports abundant wildlife throughout woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. Historic buildings and barns are still in use for educational programming and resident sheep graze pastures. The sanctuary is known for its plentiful population of hawks and warblers, making it excellent for birding. Notable features include an ADA-compliant accessible trail with audio tourfor all ability levels.
