Lincoln Woods Wildlife Sanctuary This easy hiking area features the Elizabeth Lincoln Loop, which winds gently through mature hardwood and pine forest. The sanctuary offers a 1-mile trail systemthat isa loop route that includes the Vernal Pool Loop, which circles seasonal wetlands that serve as breeding grounds for amphibians like wood frogs and spotted salamanders. Trails range from level to short slopes, with surfaces that are smooth to uneven. This short route with minimal elevation change is best explored in spring when vernal pools are active, though sections may be wet or muddy after rain. The sanctuary offers a small dose of nature in the heart of Leominster.
