Mashamoquet Brook State Park A 4.3-mile loop trail near Pomfret Center, Connecticut, this park offers a moderately challenging routewithterrain ranging from kid-friendly paths to more challenging heart-thumping climbs. The trail passes by signature rock formations including Wolf Den, Table Rock, and Indian Chair, withthe Wolf Den site added to the National Historic Places in 1985. In 1742, Israel Putnam crept into the den and shot Connecticut’s last documented wolf, an act that made him a local hero before he later became a Major General in the Continental Army. The 1,000+ acre park is a combination of three parks: the original Mashamoquet Brook, Wolf Den, and Saptree Run. Beyond hiking, the stream is annually stocked with brook, brown, and rainbow trout, making it ideal for novice to expert anglers. Two camping areas are available: The Mashamoquet Brook Campground with 18 wooded sites and The Wolf Den Campground with 35 campsites.
