Marlborough-Sudbury State Forest, Stow, Massachusetts This state forest offers easy hiking trails great for the whole family, withwell-established trails through a classic New England forest of mixed pines and hardwoods like oaks and maples. The forest has over 14 miles of marked trails, including the Bay Circuit Trail which passes through the forest, with trail distances ranging from1.3 miles (White Pond Trail) to 3.8 miles (Plymton and Hanson Loop). A highlight isthe Desert area, known for well-drained sandy soils, which provides an unusual diversity of habitats: oak-pine forest, pitch pine-scrub oak, red maple swamp, and wet meadows.
