Mainstone Farm Trailhead provides access to the largest remaining piece of undeveloped open space in Wayland, protecting218 acres of agricultural fields and woodland. With multiple parking areas on Rice Road, the extensive trails can form a variety of loops both long and short, ranging fromeasy 2.1-mile loopstoapproximately 4.5-mile circuits through connected areas. Color-blazed trails navigate past old reservoirs along Snake Brook, alive with ducks and herons, and through forests where pileated woodpeckers can be spotted, whileoutcrops and stone walls offer views of the underlying geology. The trail along the fields near the upper parking area offers great springtime bird watching.
