Lovers Leap State Park, New Milford, Connecticut This moderate loop trail spans approximately 1.8 miles, offeringdramatic vistas of the river gorge and historic ruins while straddling the Housatonic River. The signature attraction is an 1895 Berlin Iron Bridge—one of four remaining iron lenticular truss bridges in Connecticut—towering 100 feet above the river gorge. The Lovers Leap Trail extends 1,200 feet to the rock formation that gives the park its name, with tradition holding that a Pootatuck Indian chief’s daughter and her lover plunged to their deaths here. Four miles of trails lead through centuries of land-use history, includingindustrial-era ruins near the waterandbeautiful views at the Lovers Leap rock formation overlooking Lake Lillinonah.
