This hard hiking area offers access to a challenging 29-mile point-to-point section of the Long Trail with 5,866 feet of elevation gain. The trail begins from Middlebury Gap and climbs to the top of the Middlebury College Snow Bowl, then continues along the ridgeline south towards Mount Horrid, featuring a great viewpoint known as the Horrid Cliffs. The trail is located in Green Mountain National Forest, andseveral GMC shelters are available to camp at along the way. The best times to visit are June through October, andthe trail is great for backpacking, camping, and hiking.
