This easy trail covers approximately 10.7 miles and isa point-to-point route(also described asan old railroad bed). The trail is neighbored by extensive deciduous woodlands, small horse farms, open water ponds, quiet wetlands and stream-side passagesas itextends from Kettletown Road in Southbury to Whittemore Glen State Park on Route 63 in Naugatuck through four towns of Southbury, Oxford, Middlebury and Naugatuck. The Naugatuck portion is somewhat more challenging and isolated, while the west-of-Naugatuck section is wider, flatter, and more accessible. The 10.3-mile section was purchased and gifted to the State by Dr. Charles L. Larkin in 1943 for the express purposes of establishing a state park and bridle trail. The trail welcomes walking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
