Lamoille Valley Rail Trail – Swanton The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is an easy, accessible rail trail at 10 feet wide with no more than a 3% grade throughout, making it suitable for a wide range of abilities. At 94 miles long, the LVRT is the longest rail trail in New England and connects 18 towns from St. Johnsbury to Swanton. The LVRT is a four-season, multi-purpose recreation and transportation corridor for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, dogsledding, and snowmobiling. The trail passes through the spine of Vermont’s Green Mountain Range, from the Connecticut River to Lake Champlain. You will be treated to views of the river, mountains, and Vermont countryside, with beautiful views of the Lamoille River, farms and mountains. The LVRT offers historically significant structures such as the Fisher Covered Bridge, the bridges in Morristown and Swanton, historic railroad station buildings, and historic stone culverts. In Swanton, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail intersects with the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail, offering even more ways to explore Vermont on foot and by bike.
