Lake St. George State Park is a public recreation area located on the northwest shore of Lake St. George in Liberty, Maine, covering 358 acres and offering camping, lifeguard-supervised swimming, picnicking, canoeing, motorized boating, and fishing. Three to five miles of hiking trails are within walking distance from the campground. The Old Jeep Trail is a 1.5-mile moderate-to-difficult hike due to hilly terrain, with easier going out to the river than on the return. North of Route 3, hikers can take the steep and forested 0.5-mile River Trail to the Frye Mt-Liberty Trail, which is maintained by local snowmobile clubs, for a longer and more challenging walk. The lake covers 1,017 acres with numerous undeveloped islands, and fishing for landlocked salmon and brook trout is a popular sport. Loons are frequent visitors and their signature call can often be heard at night.
