Kittery Town Forest is an easy hiking routefeaturing2.5 miles of well-marked trailsthrougha 72-acre forest with stands of hardwoods, evergreens, and low-lying shrubs. The main1.6-mile loop trail is generally considered easy and takes approximately 31 minutes to complete, making it suitable for hikers of all skill levels. The forest contains significant historical features, includingstone walls as evidence of former farms, a former Kittery Alms House from the nineteenth century, with traces of foundations, stonewalls, and unmarked graves still visible, andthe ruins of the Town Pound on Haley Road where stray livestock was once kept.
