The Kennebec River Rail Trail is an easy 6.5-mile recreational trail, arail trail near Augusta, Mainethatstretches from Augusta Maine’s Waterfront Park, through the towns of Hallowell and Farmingdale, to its conclusion in the city of Gardiner, Maine. The picturesque Kennebec flows to your left, while a high slope on the right shields you from the nearby State Capitol complex. The trail is very family-friendly, and stroller and wheelchair accessible, withthe trail surface being asphalt, smooth, and typically at least 6 feet wide. At mile 2, the trail arrives at the waterfront in Hallowell, once a logging, mill, and shipbuilding center, where trail users might be drawn to the colorful Adirondack chairs that overlook the river or visit antique stores, art studios, and restaurants along Water Street.
