John H. Weigold Conservation Area This easy loop trail covers 0.9 miles, making it an ideal short outing for hikers of all levels. The 33-acre conservation areafeatures aheavily forested landscape with primarily oak, beech, and birch, along with a permanent brook and a ledge rising 70 feet above the brook forming one wall of a gorge. The old mill pond has become a swamp with a brook running through it and its old dam is located by the side of the road. A vernal pool exists on the western border where coldwater fish, wildlife, and bird species thrive. The trail connects with Tobiassen Memorial Forest and Summerwood Ridge, allowing for extended exploration of this scenic network in central Connecticut.
