Jay State Forest comprises 8,242 acres across four towns in northern Vermont, offering varied hiking opportunities on multiple trails. The most popular route, Jay Peak via Long Trail, is a hard hike covering 3.2 miles with 1,633 feet of elevation gain, leading toa summit that boasts 360-degree views of Northern Vermont and Quebec. The forest includes several side trails that provide access to local peaks and the Long Trail, withtrails in the park ranging from 675 to 2,828 feet of elevation gain. Journey’s End Trail leads to the northern terminus of the Long Trail at the U. S.-Canada border, making this an important destination for backpackers completing or beginning their Long Trail journey. The forest also provides access for hunters and anglers targeting brook trout in the headwaters of the Missisquoi River.
