The Intervale Center manages a 360-acre campus of farmland, trails and open space along the Winooski River in Burlington, VT. Trails offer easy, flat walks that loop along the banks of the Winooski River, through farm fields, and through unique floodplain forest. Notable features include the Rena Calkins trail that winds along the river where Mallards and Common Mergansers can be spotted, farm fields where Red-tailed Hawks and Peregrine Falcons are often seen, and wooded areas home to kinglets, warblers, and woodpeckers. At the Tommy Thompson Community Garden picnic grove, interpretive panels detail Ten Thousand Years of Agriculture in the Burlington Intervale. The area is popular for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing, with an information kiosk available at the main offices to help orient visitors.
