Hubbard Park, Meriden, Connecticut Hubbard Park features approximately 15.5 miles of trailsoffering varied difficulty levels and multiple loop options. Key destinations include Castle Craig, the Halfway House, West Peak, and South Mountain. The park has an extensive trail system with various color blazes, with many variations available to shorten or lengthen your hike. Popular routes includethe 3.8-mile East and West Peak Loop, generally considered moderately challenging and taking an average of 1 hour 57 minutes to complete. This loop visits both East and West peaks, with views extending to Long Island Sound on clear days. As you climb through forests of chestnut oak and mountain laurel, keep an eye out for Peregrine Falcons that nest on the steep cliffs. The signature feature is Castle Craig Tower, a stone observation tower atop East Peak, dedicated in 1900 and built of native trap rock. There are hiking trails to the tower as well as a road open from May 10th through October 30th from 10:00 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. (weather permitting). An accessible scenic loop circles Merimere Reservoir, winding through shaded forest and along the shoreline with occasional rocky sections and open viewpoints.
