Hopeville Pond State Park This 554-acre state park encompasses the historic site of the lost village of Hopeville and sits on Hopeville Pond, an impoundment of the Pachaug River in Griswold, Connecticut. The park features a 1.3 mile unpaved loop trail, though the primary hiking draw isthe 13-mile blue-blazed Nehantic Trail, maintained by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association, which connects three state-owned areas. The Nehantic Trail, accessible from across the road from the main swimming area, follows the ridges of glacial terrain before crossing a small stream and then Roode Road. Most of the Nehantic Trail is fairly level easy-to-moderate hiking, with a short steep section leading to Mt. Misery, a 441-foot overlook. Beyond hiking, the park offers picnicking, freshwater fishing, swimming, boating, and bicycling. The park manager’s house is the Avery House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
