Heron Pond Preserve This easy-terrain preserveoffersfive interconnected trails that provide a variety of routesacrossa 29-acre preserve with two lively watercourses flowing down separate valleys with a ridge in between. The preserve consists of two distinct topographical features: high ground runs north-south along the western portion, while a low-lying wetland area forms the eastern portion. Hikers will enjoypicturesque streams through the forest near busy Route 9, where the highway blends into the background as you walk past the babbling streams and high along rocky ledges. Discover traces of old roadbeds and stone walls hinting at the land’s early uses which included logging and pasturing of farm animals. Note that there is one steep section on the white trail, and the bridges indicated on the map are narrow and rustic.
