Heald Tract Trailhead Most of the trails are easy hiking with several hills, though Fisk Hill Trail that runs along the Wilton-Temple town line is the steepest. The Heald Pond Trail offers an easy stroll, while the Camp Trail or Castor Pond Loop Trail provide more of a challenge. The Heald Tract features more than seven miles of trails crisscrossing this varied landscape, withthe Heald Pond Trail being a 2.0-mile loop trail that is generally considered easy and takes an average of 44 minutes to complete. This conservation area offers abundant natural attractions. Trails that skirt the shores of Heald and Castor Ponds offer views of beaver lodges, andvisitors may spot an otter family playing in the water or a great blue heron fishing on Camp Pond. Look for orchard blossoms and vernal pools in spring, mountain laurel blooming in early summer, and a carpet of water lilies on King Brook Reservoir. The orchard and fields offer early succession habitat for fox, hares, and different species of warblers. Beyond hiking, fishing is welcome on Heald Pond, with warm-water species expected.
