Harold Parker State Forest features 35 miles of trails, 11 ponds, and dozens of campsitesina Central Hardwood-Hemlock-White Pine forest located in Andover, North Andover, North Reading and Middleton. The forest offers diverse difficulty levels: single-track trail riding rates as 30% easy, 30% moderate, and 40% difficult with some rocky sections. Wide, straight fire roads are great for walking and cross-country skiing, while narrower, winding, single-track trails are popular with mountain bikers but also great for hiking. Key highlights includescenic ponds with shorter hikes to Sudden Pond and longer hikes to Salem Pond, beaver dams and a historic Jenkins Mill site, and opportunities to spotfrogs, turtles, giant water bugs, possibly beavers and deer, and the rare blue-spotted salamander. An ADA-accessible stone dust path called the Healthy Heart Trail runs from the pavilion on Middleton Road, andthe forest offers camping with dozens of campsites.
